Resort 2014: Givenchy

The Goddess Ciara, Lord of making menswear sexy in a way that us mortals back on the grubby ground can only hope to imitate, wore one of Riccardo Tisci's Spring 2013 Menswear looks head to toe and the world, well I, went tits. The opening look at his Resort 2014 show has me thinking Tisci's picked up on the reaction to his muse in menswear as a white suit opens the show. The cut is everything you could want; single-breasted jacket with minimal detailing over high-waist loose pants. All on a model who could be the Angelina Jolie manniquin you'd have found at Madam Tussauds in the late-1990s/early-2000s. Snogging her brother era Angelina; bat shit cray, incestuous but flawless in that white Dolce & Gabbana suit at the 2001 Oscars.

Elsewhere the cut of the suit was repeated in YAY HERE IT COMES a characteristic Givenchy print. I probs should be over these by now but Tisci's fave religious imagery - as seen on Goddess Ciara - popped up once again to remind us that hey, this is Givenchy, this is iconic, this is what everyone's wearing right now. Just ask Pro Green. This time peeping above a paper-bag skirt, drawn in tight at the waist, Tisci's chucked his icon away. Don't put your Givenchy tee in the bin yet; if people are gonna chuck em, Tisci's gonna do it first. It was my FAVE when Henry Holland stepped out on the catwalk in a 'One Trick Pony' tee. Designers, stay ahead of the cruel, fickle fashion consumer. Without a second thought she'll leave you forgotten in The Priory, being force-fed through a drip, weeping for your heyday and muttering about how velour tracksuits are 'so Fall 2014'.

This paper bag sillouette is repeated in a trench and in rich satins, the models looking like Quality Streets and just as mmmmmm. As much as I like these looks I reckon Tisci's at the top of his game in his Menswear collections. Him and his Queen Ciara (soz Queen Bey you've been demoted) are ruling men's fashion. Make like Ciara all of you and act Like A Boy; pull up your pants just like em. Under Tisci Givenchy has become the darling - and cause - of the rare magic moment when the fashion and hip hop worlds collide successfully. Like Kanye said, let's get raunchy in Givenchy.
